KRIS HOLMES BIO

Kris Holmes, born July 19th, 1950 in Reedly, California, is an American Typographer. She is well educated in her field and studied at multiple schools including Reed College, the Martha Graham School and Alwin Nikolai School, the School of Visual Arts, the Rochester Institute of Technology, Harvard, and University of California, Los Angeles. Kris Holmes has an educational background with studies in calligraphy, modern dance, type design, and animation. Using her expertise in typography, she has designed over 75 fonts with some of her most famous being Leviathan, Shannon, Baskerville, Caslon, ITC Isadora, Sierra, Lucida, Galileo, Apple New York, Apple Monaco, Apple Chancery, and Kolibri. Her work has been included in several magazines and journals like Scientific American and Fine Print, while also being exhibited in museums like the Klingspor Museum in Offenbauch, Germany, and the Gary Graphic Arts Collection at RIT. Lastly, she is also known for her prize-winning animation, La Bloomba.
